Day 3 – Tokyo | Tokyo City Tour
After breakfast at our hotel, guests who wish may join the Tokyo City Tour organized as an extra by our guide. Our first stop will be Meiji Shrine, one of Japan’s most visited temples. Dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his wife Shōken, who are greatly respected as the founders of modern Japan, we reach this shrine by walking along the sacred path in the large Yoyogi Park. During this visit, you may also make wishes like the Japanese. Our next stop will be Takeshita Street, one of Tokyo’s most remarkable streets. This street, especially enlivened by Japanese youth with their different styles and outfits, is also in the spotlight of the fashion world. Don’t forget to take photos of your own image on the live screens at the entrance of the street. From this lively street, we walk to the famous Omotesando shopping avenue and board our bus. Next is our visit to the world-famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing and the loyal dog Hachiko statue. As we cross the pedestrian crossing, we record videos and take souvenir photos with Hachiko. After a short drive by bus, we head to another highlight of Tokyo, Asakusa. Asakusa is one of the oldest districts in Tokyo. After visiting Sensōji Temple, one of the must-see stops on Tokyo tours, we will have a short free time on the historic Nakamise shopping street in front of the temple, where you can discover street food and buy some gifts. Again by bus, we head to the outer garden of the Imperial Palace, truly the heart of Tokyo. After taking photos in front of Nijūbashi (nicknamed the Eyeglasses Bridge), which is always featured in Tokyo brochures, our final stop will be the Ginza shopping district.
Day 4 – Tokyo | Kamakura Tour
After breakfast at our hotel, guests who wish may join the Kamakura Tour organized as an extra by our guide. In this city, which was once the old political center of Japan, you will step into a different world with its temples and statues.
Day 5 – Tokyo | Panoramic Tokyo City Tour & Transfer to Diamond Princess
After breakfast at our hotel, we will take a panoramic Tokyo city tour and then transfer to the 5-star Diamond Princess. Our ship will depart from the port at 16:00.
Day 6 – Toba | Toba City Tour & Ise-Jingu Temple Complex
After breakfast on the ship, guests who wish may join the Toba Tour organized as an extra by our guide. We begin our tour in the town of Ise, which has been known for centuries as the “Sacred City” because of the Ise-Jingu Temple Complex. Here you will travel back in time. Designated a National Treasure by the Japanese government, this sacred area contains more than 125 shrines and is surrounded by Japanese cypress trees, centered around the main shrines of Naiku (Inner Shrine) and Geku (Outer Shrine). The main building of each shrine is a simple thatched structure made of unpainted cypress wood joined together in the ancient Japanese style. At the heart of the complex is the beautifully preserved Okage Yokocho, a street spanning three acres with an elegant architectural layout. Built to resemble a town from the Edo and Meiji periods, the street is lined with houses, shops, restaurants, and many businesses that have served pilgrims and tourists for centuries. We then return to Toba and visit the city’s important areas before transferring back to our ship.
Day 7 – Kochi | Kochi Castle & Kochi City Tour
After breakfast on the ship, guests who wish may join the Kochi Castle & Kochi City Tour organized as an extra by our guide. As we explore two of the city’s most respected landmarks, learn how Kochi became a center of pro-imperial ideology at the end of the feudal era. From the pier, we head to Kochi Castle. Built more than 400 years ago by feudal lord Yamanouchi Kazutoyo, the “donjon” or main tower is worth the climb, offering famous panoramic views of the entire city. Your tour will take you through the beautifully restored Tsumemon Gate, which connects the castle’s second keep to its inner sanctuary, and no visit is complete without seeing the living quarters, or “honmaru,” which house local and historical treasures. After a walk on the castle grounds, you will board your bus and head to the beautiful Katsurahama Beach. Here stands the statue of Sakamoto Ryoma, one of Japan’s most beloved historical figures, known for transforming feudal Japan into a modernized, unified nation. At the end of our tour, we return to our ship.
Day 8 – Miyazaki (Aburatsu) | Miyazaki City Tour
After breakfast on the ship, guests who wish may join the Miyazaki City Tour organized as an extra by our guide. We begin our tour by visiting Aoshima Shrine, the symbol of the love legend of the union between Yamasachihiko and Toyotama-hime. Later, among the places we will visit are Sun Messe Nichinan, which contains 15 Moai statues officially licensed for Easter Island, and Florante Miyazaki Garden, home to tens of thousands of flowers. After free time in the city center, we return to our ship.
Day 9 – Nagasaki | Nagasaki City Tour
After breakfast on the ship, guests who wish may join the Nagasaki City Tour organized as an extra by our guide. We will begin our tour by going to Peace Memorial Park. Here, we will witness the city and the Mitsubishi shipyard from the unique Megami Ohashi Bridge. Peace Memorial Park is located near Ground Zero of the August 9, 1945 explosion. The Atomic Bomb Museum records the events leading to the bombing and the event itself. Walk to the Atomic Bomb Hypocenter, a black monolith marking Ground Zero. We will visit the rebuilt Urakami Cathedral and the one-legged Torii gate. From there we will continue to Dejima Island and visit the Dejima Museum, which explains how the unique Japanese-Dutch trading system operated for two centuries. We will walk toward Glover Garden in the Foreign Settlement District, which has seven historic buildings, including the first wooden Western-style house in Japan.
Special Notes: This tour contains sensitive material such as graphic images and depictions regarding the atrocities of war. It is necessary to climb about 50 steps from the museum to the center. Glover Garden is located atop a hill; passengers must walk uphill, climb steep steps, and travel over uneven surfaces. Glover Garden may be partly under construction and covered. We recommend wearing comfortable low-heeled walking shoes.
Day 10 – Busan | Busan City Tour
After breakfast on the ship, we begin our Busan city tour. Busan is South Korea’s second-largest city and an important port city. It became a port city ruled by four small states in the 1st century AD. In this city, which has witnessed temples, royal tombs, Japanese occupation, and the Korean War, our first stop will be Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, one of the few coastal Buddhist temples in South Korea. Then we will see Haeundae Dalmaji-gil Road, Haeundae Beach, Dongbaekseom Island, and the mermaid statue representing the heartbreaking legendary love story of the princess of the Naranda country, with its famous views of the blue ocean, white sandy beach, camellia forest, and pine forest. Afterwards, we will visit the UN Memorial Cemetery, where the soldiers of the 16 United Nations countries who lost their lives in the Korean War of 1950–1953 lie, along with the Turkish Martyrs’ Memorial and monument within it. Busan Gamcheon Culture Village is also known as the “Machu Picchu of Busan.” Busan Tower is located in Nampodong, the old central district of Busan, where there are all kinds of brands as well as reasonably priced local shops.
