Day 3 – Tokyo | Tokyo City Tour
After breakfast at the hotel, our guests who wish may join the Tokyo City Tour organized as an extra by our guide. On the city tour, the first place we will see is the Tokyo Imperial Palace, which includes many buildings such as the Main Palace, the private residence of the Imperial Family, archives, museums, and administrative offices. Tokyo Imperial Palace was built on the site of an old castle where the Shogun resided in the 15th century. In the 19th century, when Emperor Meiji moved the royal family from Kyoto to Tokyo, this place also became the property of the royal family. Since most of the buildings were destroyed during World War II, the oldest remaining items today are only 50 years old.
Our second stop will be the Ginza district, one of the city’s most popular shopping areas, filled with luxury boutiques as well as first-class cocktail and sushi bars. Ginza hosts countless tourists from all over the world as one of the most luxurious shopping districts in the world.
Then we will visit Asakusa Temple, also known as Sensoji Temple, which is considered one of Tokyo’s oldest and most colorful temples. Asakusa, also called the Temple of the Three Gods, is highly popular among both tourists and locals. It is one of the few temples in Tokyo that survived the bombings in the final year of World War II, so its original structure has remained intact. The temple also hosts the Santa Festival held every May. According to legend, it was built by two fisherman brothers in honor of the goddess of mercy, Kannon. After Asakusa Temple, we will see Nakamise Street, the shopping street located there.
We then continue our tour with a visit to Akihabara, one of Tokyo’s most famous neighborhoods worldwide. Akihabara is an extremely crowded shopping district known for its electronic stores of all kinds, from small street stalls to huge shopping malls. After free time, we return to our hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 4 – Tokyo | Transfer to NCL SPIRIT
After breakfast at our hotel, we will have free time until the departure time given by our guide, and then we will transfer to the ship.
Day 5 – Mount Fuji Shimizu | Ashi Lake & Fuji Scenic Towns Tour
After breakfast on board, our guests who wish may join the Ashi Lake & Fuji Scenic Towns Tour organized as an extra by our guide. As the ship docks at Shimizu Port, we head to the magical Ashi Lake, located about 1.5 hours away. After a boat ride lasting approximately half an hour, we tour the towns around Mount Fuji where we can best experience traditional Japanese culture. While listening to the legendary stories of these towns with their famous Mount Fuji views, we enjoy a tour that allows us to experience life outside the big cities.
Day 6 – Nagoya | Nagoya Castle & Honmaru Palace Tour
After breakfast on board, our guests who wish may join the Nagoya Castle & Honmaru Palace Tour organized as an extra by our guide.
Day 7 – Kyoto | Kyoto Tour
After breakfast on board, our guests who wish may join the Kyoto Tour organized as an extra by our guide. Kyoto, which served as the capital of the Japanese Empire for 1,100 years, is today regarded as the country’s cultural and historical capital and welcomes millions of visitors every year with unforgettable experiences. Kyoto, a city with treasures in every corner, has 17 sites listed as UNESCO World Heritage. On this tour, we have the chance to see Kiyomizudera and Kinkakuji temples, which are among the highlights of the list.
Kiyomizu Temple is one of the most important Buddhist temples in Japan. Its historical wooden architecture and the magnificent view it offers over Kyoto fully justify this importance. Especially, the Otawa waterfall, from which Japanese visitors line up to drink from all three streams for a long life, success in education, and a fortunate love life, is one of the reasons for the temple’s establishment here. If you wish, you may drink as well. But remember, drinking from all three is considered greed. At the famous shopping street at the entrance, it is possible to find and taste all kinds of Japanese gifts and sweets.
We then board our vehicle again to go to Kinkaku Temple, our next stop, and depart from Kiyomizudera. Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion Temple) is known as a Zen temple. What made it famous is that it is covered in gold leaf, and the breathtaking view created by this eye-catching appearance and its reflection in the nearby pond. With its garden and other historical structures, it is one of Kyoto’s most precious treasures. After taking our best photos, we meet our vehicle again and head to the Gion district, home to the geishas that attract great interest in Japanese culture. Its narrow streets and wooden buildings, which have reached the present day almost unchanged for centuries, take us back hundreds of years. The Gion Geisha school, which still trains Geiko (artist women) and Maiko (apprentice geisha), continues its traditions without breaking away from them. While walking through the streets of Gion, we will learn about the interesting life stories of geishas.
Continuing our Kyoto tour, we board our vehicle again and head a little south to visit Fushimi Inari Taisha. Fushimi Inari Taisha is a Shinto shrine and the center of approximately 30,000 Inari shrines found throughout Japan. The thousands of vermilion-red torii (sacred gates) corridors here will give you countless photo opportunities. Inari, the Shinto deity for whom farmers once prayed for more abundant harvests, is now a very popular deity to whom everyone prays for things to go well and to earn more profit. After visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha, one of Kyoto’s treasures, we meet our vehicle again and head to the port to go back to our ship.
Day 8 – Himeji | Himeji Castle & Journey to 14th-Century Japan
After breakfast on board, our guests who wish may join the Himeji Castle & Journey to 14th-Century Japan tour organized as an extra by our guide. Himeji was founded as a castle town in the 14th century. Over the centuries, the castle underwent many major renovations and expansions under different rulers. Today, Himeji Castle still sits on the hillside and is the main attraction for visitors to the area. The city, home to approximately half a million residents, offers a wide variety of dining and shopping opportunities to enjoy while exploring the castle, temples, and shrines.
Day 9 – Kochi | Kochi Castle & Kochi City Tour
After breakfast on board, our guests who wish may join the Kochi Castle & Kochi City Tour organized as an extra by our guide. Learn how Kochi became the center of pro-imperial ideology at the end of the feudal period while visiting the city’s two most respected landmarks. We head from the pier to Kochi Castle. Built more than 400 years ago by feudal lord Yamanouchi Kazutoyo, the “donjon” or main tower is worth the climb, offering famous panoramic views of the entire city. Your tour will take you through the beautifully restored Tsumemon Gate, which connects the castle’s second keep to its inner sanctum, and no visit is complete without seeing the living quarters, or “honmaru,” which house local and historical treasures. After a walk through the castle grounds, you will board your bus and head to beautiful Katsurahama Beach. Here stands the statue of Sakamoto Ryoma, one of Japan’s most beloved historical figures, known for transforming feudal Japan into a modernized, unified nation. At the end of our tour, we return to our ship.
Note: Hirosaki Castle tower has been relocated for a 10-year renovation of its inner stone wall. Walking in Hirosaki Castle Park is mostly on flat bare ground. There is no elevator at the castle. To explore the floors inside, you need to use steep (almost ladder-like) stairs. Guests with walking difficulties may rest in the garden area during the castle visit.
Day 10 – Hiroshima | Itsukushima Shrine & Hiroshima City Tour
After breakfast on board, our guests who wish may join the Hiroshima City Tour organized as an extra by our guide. We begin our tour by visiting Itsukushima Shrine, designated as a World Heritage Site, National Treasure, and Important Cultural Property. The shrine’s unique Shinden-style architecture is a typical example of noble residences from the late Heian Period. Elegant vermilion-lacquered shrines and supporting buildings connected by long corridors and cloisters are spread across a pier standing above the tidal flats. During high tide, the 6th-century Itsukushima Shrine and its picturesque red torii gate appear to float on the water.
We then return to Hiroshima and visit the Peace Memorial Park and its museum. We will see the Atomic Bomb Dome here. The skeletal dome structure stands as a silent symbol of destruction. We will visit the Children's Peace Monument, inspired by a girl who died of leukemia as a result of the atomic bomb. The park now receives about 10 million paper cranes each year in the name of world peace. We will see the colorful paper cranes hanging during your visit. At the end of our tour, we return to our ship.
Special Notes: Itsukushima Shrine is currently under renovation and some buildings may be covered. Due to the nature of the places visited, this tour includes graphic images that may be disturbing. We recommend that passengers carry local currency for their purchases.
Day 11 – Kagoshima | Kagoshima City Tour
After breakfast on board, we begin our Kagoshima City Tour. Kagoshima is a city built in the shadow of Sakurajima, an active volcano on the Sumi Peninsula. Departing from the port, we first visit Shiroyama Park, located on a hill that is home to the Shiroyama Observation Deck, where we can enjoy beautiful views of Kagoshima and Mount Sakurajima. Next, we head to Sengan-en Garden, one of the country’s most beautiful traditional Japanese gardens. This classic Japanese-style park, where Kagoshima Bay and Mount Sakurajima can be photographed at their best, includes ponds, streams, shrines, and bonsai trees. Our tour ends with free time at Tenmonkan Shopping Arcade, after which we return to the port.
Day 12 – Nagasaki | Nagasaki City Tour
After breakfast on board, our guests who wish may join the Nagasaki City Tour organized as an extra by our guide. We begin our tour at Peace Memorial Park. Here we will witness the views of the city and the Mitsubishi shipyard from the Megami Ohashi Bridge. Peace Memorial Park is located near the Ground Zero of the August 9, 1945 explosion. The Atomic Bomb Museum records the events leading to the bombing and the bombing itself. Walk to the Atomic Bomb Hypocenter, a black monolith marking Ground Zero. We will visit the rebuilt Urakami Cathedral and the One-Legged Torii gate. From here we continue to Dejima Island and visit the Dejima Museum, which explains how the unique Japanese-Dutch trading system operated for two centuries. We then walk toward Glover Garden in the Foreign Settlement District, which includes seven historic buildings, among them Japan’s first wooden Western-style house.
Special Notes: This tour contains sensitive material such as graphic images and depictions relating to the atrocities of war. About 50 steps are required from the museum to the center. Glover Garden is located at the top of a hill; passengers must walk uphill, climb steep steps, and travel over uneven surfaces. Glover Garden may be partly under construction and may be covered. We recommend wearing comfortable, low-heeled walking shoes.

On this beautiful day, we will explore Jeju Island, part of South Korea. It will be one of the most exciting days of the tour! For a day full of dazzling colors and delights, we will take a scenic drive to the Jungmun resort area on Jeju Island. We head to Yeomiji Botanical Garden, the largest botanical garden in Asia. Here you will discover a three-acre glass greenhouse anchored by a 38-meter-high observation tower. More than 2,000 exotic species of plants and flowers are displayed in breathtaking presentations, along with 24 acres of themed outdoor gardens.
Then we proceed to Cheonjiyeon to photograph its dazzling three-tiered waterfall and bright red bridge, where seven maidens carved from local legend are depicted.
